From today’s New York Times, Thursday, December 22, 2016:
“Mr. Trump’s statement, in a midafternoon Twitter post, may have been a response to President Vladimir Putin of Russia who … earlier on Thursday vowed to strengthen Russia’s nuclear missiles.”
…
“Shortly after Mr. Putin’s comments were reported by the news media, Mr. Trump said on Twitter that the United States must ‘strengthen and expand’ its nuclear forces ‘until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes…’”
You gotta be kidding!
But this could be the best of news or the worst of news. On its face it’s the worst of news, and if it has no consequences now – as it seemed that the overture to Taiwan had no consequences – it’s the worst of news. Let’s please face it: This exchange not just symbolizes, but actualizes a nuclear threat to our world!
If Donald Trump continues in this way it could be the best thing that could happen, and for our sakes we must hope that the Taiwan affair and this one are just the first of many which come quick and fast, and hopefully deluge the world with fear and terror!
Because the world must be afraid enough to impress on our politicians that if Donald Trump is inaugurated they will form a worldwide coalition, a coalition of the strangest and most diametrically opposed bedfellows, that working together will make clear to them that in a Trump world, they have all agreed to do whatever necessary to protect themselves. That hopefully they can neutralize the threat he poses to the world without our help.
If you’re thinking that they’re doing something like that might result in a threat of nuclear retaliation, you demonstrate, from that very realization, that the threat is REAL!!!
I have not the slightest doubt that Donald Trump would use nuclear threat as leverage to intimate his “negotiation partners” to give him anything he might want. Our international neighbors had better realize that. When they do there can be hope.
So what we need – behind the scenes where we have no sense of what is going on – is for the nations to contemplate together how dangerous a United States will be with a person who on his own has the power, not just the authority, to put an end to our lives on earth as we know them, or perhaps have no lives on earth at all. And we have to hope that Donald Trump continues to feed their fear and God willing, terror, so that without us knowing the why, Donald Trump withdraws from going through with the inauguration.
The why will have been that behind the scenes, behind scenes that we will not know about until later if ever, Trump was convinced that a special session of Congress would be waiting to impeach and convict him the moment he took the oath on the afternoon of Friday, January 20th, 2017.
